Who Are Soroptimists?

Soroptimist International was founded in Oakland, California, in 1921, by 80 women whose goal was to foster the ideal of service. From those first 80 women, the organization has grown to almost 100,000 members in more than 120 countries worldwide. Local Soroptimist clubs work within their respective communities and also join together for larger national and international projects. Soroptimist International works with other non-government organizations (NGOs) and various United Nations agencies to promote the changes necessary to make the world a better place for this and future generations.

Soroptimists are women at their best working to help other women to be their best. Our vision is to share our time, talents and financial resources to enrich our communities. Together, we will:

Our Local Club

Soroptimist International of Garden City is a newer club, chartered in 1995. There are currently around 30 members, who are a variety of ages and personalities and in a variety of careers. Some of our members live and/or work in Garden City, but some don't have any direct affiliation with the city. We have and welcome members from outlying communities as well.

What Do We Do?

At our local club level, we organize fundraisers to support various service projects chosen by the members. We do several hands-on projects and also donate money to projects that share our vision. We recognize exceptional women and girls with awards and monetary grants to help them continue their work. See our Service Projects page for detailed information about the projects we are currently involved in.
